Bio

Joshua R. Mellows was born and raised in Maine. Born in October of 1987, Joshua has always expressed an interest in all things art. His favorite medium is a Ticonderoga #2 Pencil, and a fresh blank sheet of copy paper.

Joshua grew up in Vassalboro Maine and attended Vassalboro Community School. This left him with a choice of which high school to attend and based on his love for football, he chose Winslow High School. He graduated from Winslow HS in 2006. Following his passion for football he then attended Husson University in Bangor Maine, where he obtained his Bachelors Degree in Computer Information Systems in 2010.

During his time spent in the Bangor area he began looking for his first apprenticeship. After being turned away and discouraged from the idea of becoming a tattoo artist, Joshua simply set the idea aside to focus on school, football, and work.

In 2013 he decided it was time. He inquired at a few local shops and was further discouraged. He decided to take on the task of teaching himself the art of tattooing.

After tattooing himself for 40+ hrs, he began tattooing his friends, and family. It was not long after that, he was sought out by a local artist that took him in to complete his apprenticeship.

Every day Joshua works to find a new and improved way to better himself, and his work. He is driven to learn something new every day, open to constructive criticism and new ideas, and really enjoys being part of a team.

When he is not spending time with friends and family, working, or lifting he enjoys playing / writing music, and playing pool.

After dedicating 7 years of his life to the same goal, Joshua opened his first tattoo shop in 2021. The Golden Scale Tattoo Co.
